Isiah Needs Us! Gift A Handicapped Van to a Paralyzed Teen

Isiah’s mom Mattie had a bad feeling. That is why she went back to the emergency room a second time after multiple calls to her pediatrician were not returned. Her son, who has asthma, had a sinus infection that just wasn’t improving. He was in constant pain. When he collapsed, she went back to the hospital only to learn he had been sorely misdiagnosed — a bacterial infection from his sinus has spread to his brain and he has suffered a stroke.

Isiah is a sweet 16-year-old basketball fan who attended McEachern High School in Powder Springs. He experienced this acute ischemic left MCA stroke last year, leaving him physically and cognitively badly impaired. He has left side hemiplegia, is fed through a G-Tube and his single mother is having a hard time meeting his multiple medical needs and the expenses associated with his care juggling her job and also caring for Isiah’s five siblings.

Isiah is truly falling between the cracks of the system — not receiving the physical, occupational or speech therapy he desperately needs; minimal connection outside the home with educators, friends or healthcare clinicians and reaching only roadblocks in applying for Medicaid waivers and support.

Skye Precious Kids has reached out to partner agencies to strive toward collaboration to help this child — with support to guide them through the waiver application process, home nursing care assistance and opportunities for an in home therapy room. Their most desperate need at this time is for a handicapped van with an electronic lift installed. Mattie cannot lift her son safely and without a van outfitted for wheelchair transport, they are virtually prisoners in their own home.

The Van will cost a total of $18,504 and the conversion process will cost an additional $14,995. Although we have made progress toward acquiring gap services to address Isiah’s nursing assistance needs temporarily, we are still awaiting approval and hope to have your help his family with securing stable care.
